Internship of a Lifetime: Isla Palenque Intern Contest
64Summer Dream Job: Isla Palenque Intern
If you could think of your dream job, what would it be? That job you've always dreamed of having, but never really thought it could become a reality. Well I recently discovered one of my dream jobs and decided to go for it. Even though it's only for a summer, it is still an amazing opportunity with a fast-growing company.
Amble Resorts, a real estate development company founded in 2007, specializes in ecologically and culturally sensitive resorts in places of amazing beauty and cultural significance. Amble Resorts provides travelers with the ultimate luxury while always keeping the environment first. They are continuing to grow at a rapid pace and are currently preparing to open their Isla Palenque Resort.
With the anticipation of opening the Isla Palenque Resort sometime between the end of 2011 and beginning of 2012, Amble Resorts decided to hire an intern (or two) for the summer. The intern's job would be to live on the island for four to six weeks and research it, explore it, blog about it, record it, and anything else necessary to bring the splendor of the island to people all over the world.
The most interesting part, however, is the way in which Amble Resorts decided to choose their Isla Palenque summer intern. They advertised the opening for a summer internship on internships.com, as well as their own website, and instructed hopeful interns to apply by recording and uploading a video to Youtube about why they should be the Isla Palenque summer intern. All of the contestant's videos would then be uploaded on IslaPalenque.com and voted on by the public. The deadline for the videos was on March 28, which is when the contest officially began, and ten finalists will be selected by April 12.
There were an enormous amount of applicants trying to meet the deadline, and I think even Amble Resorts was surprised by the final number of contestants. The competition has now been active for almost a week and the ten finalists will be determined on April 12. The criteria for choosing the ten finalists are: One contestant with the most Youtube views, four contestants with the most votes, and five contestants chosen by the panel of expert judges. The panel of judges is headlined by the President of Amble Resorts, Benjamin Loomis and also includes the Chairman and CEO of the West Paces Hotel Group, Horst Schulze; Principal of Design Workshop, Richard Shaw; and the Social Media Editor for Treehugger.com, Chris Tackett. There are also several other expert judges taking part in deciding the ten finalists.
After the ten finalists are announced on April 12, the second deadline will take place on April 25 and the Isla Palenque summer intern will be announced on May 2. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a fantastic way to start a career. This kind of job would not only feed a hunger for traveling, researching and exploring new places, but it would provide an opportunity to bring the beauty of nature to people all over the world while also promoting sustainability and care for our environment.
I am competing to win a chance to obtain one of my ultimate dream jobs and would love all of the support I can get. There is one week left in the competition, so if you believe that I deserve to be the Isla Palenque summer intern, please vote on me and promote my video. If given the opportunity, I would embrace it and work hard to bring the beauty and magnificence of Isla Palenque into the homes of people all over the world. I understand how important and absolutely incredible this opportunity would be and I would not take it for granted.
